Wajik

Wajik can always be found during holidays such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. This light snack is also served during ceremonies such as circumcisions, weddings and others.

Ingredients:

  • white rice
  • brown sugar
  • sugar
  • coconut milk from 1 coconut
  • lime leaves
  • pandan leaves
  • salt

How to Make:

  • Soak white rice in water.
  • Steam rice in hot boiler until it becomes sticky.
  • After the water is boiling, add the sticky rice.
  • Stir the mixture until the water is all absorbed by the sticky rice. Then, remove the mixture.
  • Boil coconut milk, brown sugar, granulated sugar, orange leaves, pandan leaves until the mixture coagulates.
  • Put steamed sticky rice.
  • Cook until coconut milk is absorbed by sticky rice and the sticky rice is slightly dry.
  • Pour glutinous rice flour into a baking sheet, leveled while pressed.
  • After it is cool, cut the sticky rice into a diamond shape.
