Betawi-style Mosque

In the Village, a Betawi-style mosque called Great Baitul Makmur Mosque is a gem. The mosque stands gracefully with typical Betawi architecture and is located at RT 001 RW 007 Kelurahan Srengseng Sawah.

Initially, the mosque was a donation by the surrounding Betawi community with an area around 900m2. In 2002, the Jakarta administration, through the Culture Agency, expanded the mosque by another 1,000 m2 plot of land and renovated the mosque.

The mosque was built following Betawi classical architecture with mostly wood as main material. The typical Betawi-style foyer and ornaments that bind the mosque are also very distinctive.

In addition, the mosque has gardens and yards, and surrounded by shady trees which make people feel at home when they linger in the prayer house.

No wonder that the mosque which is located on the east side of Setu Babakan, is a pride of the Betawi people.
