Kerak Telor

This is a dish which is closely associated with the Jakarta Fair festival, a celebrated event which is held annually, because the dish is always present there. Kerak Telor is also easily found in south and east Jakarta. This dish is often served in Betawi events, such as cultural festivals and traditional ceremonies.


  • white sticky rice
  • red chili
  • cutchery
  • ginger
  • salt
  • pepper powder
  • grated young coconut
  • chicken eggs / duck eggs
  • ebi
  • fried sliced shallots

How to Make:

  • Slice glutinous rice
  • Crush red chili, kencur, ginger, salt and pepper until smooth
  • Sautee the mixture with cooking oil. Then, add grated coconut and stir it until it dries.
  • Smear oil on a pan and press rice on it.
  • Close the pan and cook the rice.
  • Beat eggs with seasoned coconut, ebi and fried onions then flatten it on the pan.
  • Close the pan is closed until all is cooked.
