The word Semur comes from the Dutch’s word smoor, which means cooked for a long time using low heat. In Betawi community, Semur Jengkol is a perfect complementary dish for nasi uduk. Semur Jengkol can be found in many areas in Jabodetabek (Jakarta and its greater areas).
Ingredients:
- jengkol
- water
- oil
- soy sauce
Crushed seasoning:
- red onion
- salt
- red chili
- coriander
- candlenut
- sliver of ginger
How to Make:
- Boil jengkol for ± 1 hour until soft. Remove the water. Wash the jengkol and crush it.
- Sauté the crushed seasoning until fragrant.
- Add jengkol, sweet soy sauce, and water.
- Cook the dish for 5-10 minutes until the jengkol is soft and cooked
