Semur Jengkol

The word Semur comes from the Dutch’s word smoor, which means cooked for a long time using low heat. In Betawi community, Semur Jengkol is a perfect complementary dish for nasi uduk. Semur Jengkol can be found in many areas in Jabodetabek (Jakarta and its greater areas).

Ingredients:

  • jengkol
  • water
  • oil
  • soy sauce

Crushed seasoning:

  • red onion
  • salt
  • red chili
  • coriander
  • candlenut
  • sliver of ginger

How to Make:

  • Boil jengkol for ± 1 hour until soft. Remove the water. Wash the jengkol and crush it.
  • Sauté the crushed seasoning until fragrant.
  • Add jengkol, sweet soy sauce, and water.
  • Cook the dish for 5-10 minutes until the jengkol is soft and cooked
